Unique Installation of Cable Distribution System for Security Alarm System in Chateau "Hluboká nad Vltavou"

Chateau "Hluboká nad Vltavou" is undoubtedly the most romantic and fairy-tale-like chateau in the Czech Republic. The chateau was re-built into its present romantic image of Neo-Gothic style in the second half of the 19th century by Prince Jan Adolf II Schwarzenberg and his wife Eleanor who were inspired by the Windsor royal palace in England. Thus, a beautiful work of architecture was built, decorated with spires, bratticing, balconies, corbels, windows and other architectonic details.

Every visitor of the chateau is thrilled not only by the outward appearance, but also by the interior of the chateau. Walls and ceilings of the halls, rooms and salons are decorated with wainscoting from several types of rare woods and rich engraved elements. Coffer fillings are made of gilt leather with a floral pattern. There are rooms decorated with tortoise shell, ruin marble or tapestry.

In such a building, in 1993 we faced a task to install a security alarm system (SAS) in order to secure a piece of our historical heritage for future generations. The task was a hard-shell because while we were designing the SAS for this chateau, we found out that it was impossible to install cables in the staterooms on the first floor and rooms on the second floor. Everything indicated that we had to use a wireless system. The system was selected to comply with the then valid standards and regulations for installations in cultural sites. Thus, an American producer of ITI system was selected. Despite the system worked well during regular maintenance and profile activity of our technicians, it was growing old physically and morally. After a few years, we faced a problem where to get spare parts for the system. It became clear that according to the standard changes and utility requirement growth in the area of security systems, the following security system couldn't be wireless any more.

When the National Heritage Institute (NHI) in České Budějovice started the 3rd re-construction phase of the chateau facades in 2003 (this time it was the face of the chateau itself), our company introduced an original installation method for cable distribution system for the security alarm system. The method consisted of an installation made inside the re-constructed façade. The idea was accepted and then, there was nothing that would prevent us from the preparation of project documentation for the implementing process.

The primary task was to eliminate any changes of the façade appearance. Therefore, a backbone communication cable route was created in the chateau attic. Branches were made leading to the outer shell and sheath in the façade. Pipe manifolds for cable installation were made vertically in the façade. The manifold outlets led into individual halls, rooms and salons on the second and first floor of the chateau. Each of these routes was carefully planned and entered into the façade drawings and discussed with the re-construction project designer Ing. Arch. Miroslav Tupý, NHI experts and particularly, with Mr. Josef Masaryk and, the chateau castellan Ing. Miroslav Pavlíček. To avoid all architectural details and decorations on the face of the chateau was necessary. Therefore, we preferred façade parts which were located around rain outlets or spots with subsided plastering.
Our technicians proceeded with care and maximum expert approach during the course of the installation. They coordinated their work with the company performing the re-construction. The whole proceedings took four years and were finished in 2007.
Thus, a piece of art was created represented by a standard SAS system which completely replaced the expiring wireless detectors. In addition, the designed distribution concept will enable a future exchange for new technologies which will be able to be applied without making any changes in the construction of this magnificent historical site.
